We visited Chinatown here and this is one of the best bakeries in this area. We came from other state but we used to live in NYC. I can tell you their egg custard tards are the best and very good taste. You can't find any egg curstard tards like this stores. They are THE BEST! It's worth it to wait for 20+ mins in the line.

I get why the lines were down the block! A light. flaky, laminated crust makes for a crispy bite tempered beautifully by the light, fluffy, eggy custard filling. Gone in no time and makes you wish you got another (or more)!

Known for their custard tarts for a good reason! The custard is creamy and the crust light and flakey. Worth the queue!

It looked closed but it’s open!! We were confused by the closed gate at first. When you walk by, there are 2 ladies who open the glass door and ask you what you want. It’s cash only but there is a chase across the street. We got some egg tarts— they were warm and fresh and some of the best I’ve ever had! It seems a little sketchy but this hole in the wall bakery is definitely worth a visit

We caught Golden Gate open, yay! We at first thought the bakery was closed but spotted a friendly face through the doorway from across the street so we crossed. A family told us the business was closed as they walked by while we were walking up. Undeterred, we were delighted to see that you were open and a crowd began to gather behind us as they noticed our interaction. The moon cakes were amazingly delicious, of course! We will be back ????

They are open today. Even google said there closed. Call to verify if they are open. Long line waiting for about 1hr Now and waiting. They take one customer at a time inside. Update: waited for 3hrs total to get our egg tart. Tart was freshly baked and they were nice and warm and delicious. Tip: bring a chair while you wait. Lol And cash only. Hope this help.

I've waited so long to try these and was so happy with my first bite. It is not your typical bakery experience. Some might even give the store front and service a 1 star because of how odd it might be. Waiting outside a door and communicating between the door's opening, but I appreciated this so much. They are true to who they are and are proud of their food. The kind worker also made sure she gave me back my exact change and that I had put it away before handing me my order so that I didn't lose my money. Flaky pastry and a well structured custard. It gives you a good bite. And the it's just eggy and sweet enough.

ORIGINAL EGG TARTS Was able to visit when it was open! Seems like there's always a line outside and you do the transactions at the door, then you wait outside for the tarts. Despite getting them around 4, it was fresh and warm! It was not to eggy and the pastry was flakey. I'm usually not a fan of egg tarts but I really enjoyed it!

Perfection...Worth the wait, even though it took an hour long wait on a Friday afternoon to get to the front of the line. We were THRILLED to find the bakery open as it was closed on our last two visits. We actually thought that Golden Gate Bakery had permanently closed. Imagine our surprise and excitement to find the place open! The bakery looked abandoned with boarded windows and a front door that was always closed. Super excited to see the nice lady who sold the tarts working the door. One cannot enter the bakery--all transactions occur at the door way. Also, don't forget to bring cash. Best egg tarts ever!! Gotta eat them while they are hot for sure. Wonderful flaky pastry crust filled with a light and soft egg custard. This is the gold standard for SF Dan Tat and not like any typical Dan Tat found in regular dim sum joints. Good standard and simply amazing!!!!! How do they get the custard to be just the right amount of soft and jiggly? Also, don't miss trying the coconut tarts...delicious!!

Stopped by for the egg tarts. They're $3.75 each now, cash only. If you know Cantonese you will hear locals mutter how expensive these are! However they are great and it's inflations pricing. Opens at 11a and they serve a couple of people at the time at the door. Line moves pretty quick.
